Job description:
A supermarket till is one of the few jobs in Poland where no experience is needed — but real conversational Polish is, because dozens of customers pass through your checkout every shift. Biedronka is hiring for stores in eight cities, from Warsaw to Słupsk.
Besides the till you will restock shelves and check product freshness, so the day is spent on the move rather than sitting. Employment is free, the store provides work clothes and part of your pay can be taken as an advance.
Main duties
- serving customers at the till and at self-service checkouts — helping them out, cancelling wrong items;
- restocking from pallets: coffee, tea, sweets, nappies, hygiene products;
- checking best-before dates, clearing expired and damaged goods from shelves and fridges;
- updating price tags and labels;
- keeping the checkout area tidy and telling customers where to find things.
Pay
- PLN 26.65 take-home per hour — that is PLN 33 gross;
- about PLN 4,650–6,200 net a month, depending on your hours;
- advances of up to PLN 1,000 a month.
Pay for a month arrives by the 25th of the next month — in practice usually on the 14th–17th.
Work schedule
- six working days a week, 8–10-hour shifts;
- three shift options: morning 06:00–16:00, evening 14:00–23:00, night 21:00–06:00;
- on average 200–240 hours a month;
- the weekly schedule is set by the store manager.
Candidate requirements
- up to 50 years old, men and women;
- no experience needed;
- conversational Polish — you cannot work the till without it;
- punctuality and team spirit.
Employment
Employment under an umowa zlecenie.
- before starting: medical check-up (PLN 120) and a sanitary test for salmonella and intestinal infections (PLN 200); both are deducted once from the first salary;
- with a valid sanitary test you only pay for the medical check-up;
- after two months of work you can apply for a residence card.
Housing
Housing is the exception here: some cities have rooms for 2–4 people with all amenities at PLN 800 a month. Check before travelling whether your location offers it.
Additional
- Polish phrases you will need at the till on day one: «Czy potrzebuje Pan/Pani torbę?», «Kartą czy gotówką?», «Paragon?»;
- comfortable shoes are a must: half the shift is spent on your feet between the till and the shelves;
- there is a smoking area outside the store.
Workplace
Biedronka supermarkets: Warsaw, Łódź, Gdańsk, Kraków, Poznań, Szczecin, Koszalin, Słupsk and suburbs.
